Gotcha, Jada

Jada's Gotcha Day, which was last Thursday, came and went without fanfare.  I was just back from a business trip and staring at an impossible day of catch-up, meetings, and events.  The house was abuzz with the usual fire drill of commutes and chores and meals.  Jada herself had her game face on, what with the challenge of her typical grind of school, music practice, and homework, not to mention 90 minutes round trip of commuting.

They say that over time, Gotcha Days fade in importance while birthdays grow in importance, and that's happened for us.  But it's still a cherished and emotional milestone, especially Jada's, because not only does it represent the moment we met her but it marks the anniversary of when we became parents.  And now I can't imagine my identity outside of being a dad.  Nor I can imagine a life without our dear Jerds.  Happy Gotcha Day!
