Hot Walk

It's Sunday and we're in the middle of a heat health emergency...let's go for a long walk through the streets of Philadelphia!  This was the logic that dictated that afternoon's time with Asher.  With Jada in Europe and Amy taking Aaron to camp, it was me and Asher post-nap.  So off we went...

A short walk to the subway station and next thing you know we are in the dead of Center City.  Our first stop was the African American Museum in Philadelphia, where we are members.  There were lots of people there, on account of it was "pay what you wish" as part of Fourth of July festivities.

From there it was a short walk to Franklin Square, where Asher reveled in playground fun, especially the see-saw, jungle gym, and swings.  There was a good crowd there, too, between Fourth activities and the end of the Chinese Lantern Festival.  Didn't get all the schwag bags that everyone else seemed to have, but did score a goody bag from the Wawa table, which consisted of fruit punch for me plus grapes and soft pretzels for Asher.  It was the perfect fuel to keep us cool and going.

It was a long and sweaty walk to Rail Park, Philadelphia's newest great public space.  We walked the entirety of the Phase 1 trail and then doubled and head down Broad Street to Dilworth Park, where Asher quickly tore his shirt off and ran into the fountains.  As I watched him frolic in the water, I thought to myself that perhaps we should've started our day here.

Eventually, I was able to wrestle him back to our stroller, towel him, and get him back on the subway home.  I made him a big smoothie and let him watch cartoons to his heart's content, and then Amy got him and gave him a bath and put him to bed.  I imagine with a big, tanned smile on his face.
