Home, Work

Yesterday was Jada's introduction to homework. Starting this week, they get four pages of homework, which are due by the end of the week. So it's basically a page a day. It's pretty easy stuff: what's the number after 5, fill in "-all" after "f-" and "h-" and "t'." Methinks I'm going to have to create extra problems for her.

Anyway, she struggled a little emotionally over this, because she misread one of the sections and did the problems wrong and had to scratch over her words and write in new words. She so wants to be perfect and to please that these mistakes made her cry. It was a good time for both Amy and me to offer her hugs and affirmation, and to use the opportunity to talk to her about the importance of not being afraid to make mistakes.

However easy the actual work is, I think it's a good discipline for her to work on it as soon as we get home, at the dinner table while we're getting food ready. I can't believe how grown-up she is getting, even if her little spat led Amy and I both to hold her for a minute each just like we used to when she was a little baby.
