Day One

One of the hard parts about being an adoptive parent is not being
there at birth to begin the bonding process. Biological parents take
for granted that their child knows them to be the mommy or the daddy
from day one. We adoptive parents, on the other hand, have to earn
that role, some months into them not having us in their lives. It
doesn't take long, but it still takes time, for them to get that there
is such a thing as a constant mommy and daddy, and that we're it.

On the flip side, it's a beautiful process, one that has touched our
heart once already with Jada, and one we're looking forward to going
through with Aaron. And we're getting Aaron even earlier in his life
than we did Jada: 5 months versus 7 1/2 months. Still, there are some
times I wish we could start from day one.
