Father's Day is a fun thing, but fatherhood is not for the faint of heart.
Father's Day is loud ties and poop emoji themed gifts. It's leaving Dad alone to nap or golf or drive, or alternatively piling on him on the family sofa or favorite restaurant. It's cheesing and back-slaps and warm hugs and wet kisses.
Fatherhood is all of those things. But it's also walking the lonely road with a kid who's struggling. Laying down the law and enduring constant chafing in response. Making room in your heart to both swell with pride at life's wins and vicariously experience the pangs of life's defeats.
Here's to the dads who step up, not just for the good times and accolades, but also for the trials and wilderness seasons. Happy Father's Day, y'all!
