Positively a Negative Experience

2022 has started off crazily to say the least.  I and others in my family were among the countless folks who Omicron snuck into in the past 30 days.  Symptoms were mild and eventually went away, but getting tested and dealing with the consequences of the positive results wreaked havoc on our schedules and our sanity.

I particularly regret that COVID grounded my kid-free trip with Amy to Dallas.  DC was our last trip, six whole months ago, and quality time together continues to be in short supply, so to go from looking forward to all the fun we had planned (and warmer weather, too) to canceling everything (and, in most cases, not getting a refund) was a downer, to say the least.

We are privileged with health, material resources, and a strong social network.  Yet we found ourselves stretched to the breaking point by the helplessness of not being able to access tests, and by how quarantining wrecked our already complicated schedules and long-frayed nerves.

But maybe we're turning a corner, as a family and a nation.  Cases are coming down, we're all feeling better, and we've fully served all required quarantines.  Our hearts are still seized up for those who were physically hit harder by COVID or had much less of a safety net to fall to when shaken.  What a lousy, lousy time it's been for so many.  All we can do is press on, do our best, and extend grace to ourselves and others.
