We are firmly in a phase in Asher's development where he refuses to accept that anyone else can tell him what to do. Asserting your own agency is a healthy step in childhood, so this is completely normal. But it can be infuriating when you are a parent trying to keep your child safe, trying to get him to do things that are good for him, or just trying to get out of the house in the morning, and every encounter is an opportunity for him to dig in his heels in the face of being told to do something he doesn't feel like doing. Sigh...
