Secured

At first glance, you could not find a more assured kid than Asher.  He is so sure of himself that he routinely chats up strangers as if he's known them forever.  Around the house, he knows what he wants and isn't afraid to say so.  This is no shrinking wallflower, friends.

And yet there are times he can be a scared little boy who just wants a hug from mommy or daddy to know that he is loved.  Discipline can be hard for him because it's jarring to be scolded by the very people you're looking to for assurance.  And yet of course we must scold him at times.

"I am not happy you did what you did, but I still love you and always will" can be hard statement to express but a necessary one nonetheless.  We cannot let our kids think that bad things they do are ok.  Nor can we let them think that because we're upset at them that we don't love them anymore.

For our littlest, every day seems to bring all these lessons and more.  May he know that how we behaves matters, in that he sees it matters to us.  And may he know that he is loved, in that he sees he is loved by us.
