Amy has often called our garden her fourth child. That's all her, but I guess in a similar way our house is like another child in that it needs to be tended to. And since it is about 100 years old, and since I'm not very handy, and since I am very busy, my approach to this "child" is to put it on a schedule. So, for posterity's sake, and perhaps other homeowners will benefit too, here is all that goes into that:

* Weed/sweep perimeter
* Deep-clean dish rack
January
* Bleed radiators
* Inspect interior and exterior walls
* Take video inventory of entire house
* Deep-clean bedrooms
February
* Oil out speaks in doors
* Clean all appliances (microwave, oven/range, dishwasher, washer/dryer)
* Deep-clean dining room
* Deep-clean office
* Flip or rotate mattresses
March
* Clean shower and faucet heads, sink traps
* Drain water heater
* Clean basement
* Sharpen knives
April
* Clean windows/doors
* Clean attic
* Test fire extinguishers and smoke detectors
* Put down storm windows
* Turn exterior hose back on
*Snake bathroom drains
May
* Interior paint touch-ups
* Clean microwave filter
* Deep-clean kitchen
* Turn gas pilot off
* Put in air conditioning units
June
* Caulk holes and cracks
* Check attic, basement, and ceilings for water damage
* Check plumbing areas for leaks and water damage
* Hose down porch
* Clean backyard and shed
July
* Deep-clean stairs, hallways, and foyer
