Kids-Free in Bahstahn

Amy and I just got back from a long (and kids-free) weekend in Boston.  I went a bunch in college and right after, but hadn't been since a conference in 2004, over 15 years ago.  Amy hadn't even been since she was a kid.  So it was fun to rediscover a great American city.

We hit the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library on our way into the city, before checking into our AirBnB near Newbury Street and walking to a nearby Y for a workout.  On our way home we hit a local grocery store to grab dinner and stock up.

I woke up early for a picturesque morning run that included lots of greenery and water views.  We then took our bikes through Boston Public Garden and Boston Common to the New England Aquarium.  A very nice aquarium experience, including that we splurged for an IMAX movie about turtles.  From there, we ate our way through Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market, before biking to Charlestown Navy Yard and Bunker Hill Monument.  We finished our day biking down the Charles River Esplanade back to our unit.  We ended our day with a trip to the Y (to further work up an appetite) and Shake Shack (to satisfy said appetite).

First thing in the morning Day 3 I got a quick swim in at a different Y, in Chinatown.  We then made a beeline by bicycle to Cambridge to visit the MIT and Harvard campuses.  Man, it had been a long time since I'd last been.  We then returned to Boston and grabbed a bite near the Boston University campus, to fuel up for a long ride through the Emerald Necklace to Arnold Arboretum, and then back through the Emerald Necklace to the Back Bay Fens.  Lots of nice scenery and a few killer hills.  We got back to the unit, headed to the Y one last time, and then grabbed food from multiple places to enjoy over cable TV back at the unit.

I got another run in on the morning of our last day, which took me back into Cambridge and then back via Fenway Park and Northeastern University.  Then we packed up and headed home.  A weekend's worth of chores awaited us and Monday morning was gaining on us.  But we'll always have fond memories of biking, walking, and eating our way through Boston.
