Baby Steps

If there was ever a meaningful milestone in the life of a baby, it's his or her first steps, or else first words.  But is there such a thing?  Babies don't go from crawling to walking at one singular moment, nor do they go from babbling to using real words.  It's an evolution, and a long one that is not always in one direction.

So it has been with Asher.  You can argue that he's taken his first steps, but I'm not sure I would know which one was his very first, and obviously he doesn't walk very easily yet and is still used to flopping down on his butt and crawling.  Similarly, just when you think he understands that certain sounds denote names ("Mama," "Aaron"), you realize he's just saying those sounds whenever and wherever, irrespective of addressing the people that go by those names.

Long story short, if you're wondering if he's taken his first steps, I'd say yes, but I'm not sure where and when.  And if you're wondering if he's said his first words, I'd say no, and it's anyone's guess as to when and what it'll be.
