Train/Cali, Day 1

It's not even summer for most of the country, but finally we are starting our summer vacation.  This one is a doozy, involving the not uncommon foray to California but using a very unconventional mode of transport.  That's right, let's take a train all the way from Philly to the Bay Area!

Our first day involved a 7+ hour ride from 30th Street Station to Pittsburgh, where we had just enough time to walk to the famous Primanti Bros for sandwiches with fries and fried eggs in them.  Thoroughly sated, we returned to the train station to wait for our train to Chicago, which we finally boarded well after midnight.  We slept in coach class for a few hours before landing in Chicago in the early morning.
