Committed to Memory

Here's a new chore for Jada for the weekend: memorizing Bible verses.

Scripture memory can conjure for some a goody two-shoes or an overly strict Christian camp.  But the practice of learning important parts of the Bible, of marinating on them until you can say them from memory, is good for the soul.  And as Jada devours her new Bible (given to her with care by her grandparents), I want her to understand the importance of not only reading but soaking in it.

So, every weekend, she'll have one verse to find, read, write out, memorize, and recite. Here are the first 12 verses I've picked out, one per week for the next three months or so.

Joshua 1:9
Psalm 23:1
Psalm 46:10
Psalm 130:5
Proverbs 3:7
Isaiah 64:4
Matthew 28:19
John 3:16
Romans 8:28
Philippians 4:6
Hebrews 12:1
1 John 1:9

Of course, there are scores of other worthy passages.  Feel free to chime in with your favorites for kids to learn.
