Anatomy of a 64-Hour Weekend

My weekdays are fire drills: wake up, pray/Bible, email/blog, exercise, breakfast with kids, school drop-offs, work, school pick-ups, dinner with kids, their bedtime, and my bedtime not longer after, with maybe a little leisure reading before I doze off.  Lately, my weekends have resembled this pace.  Here's a running account of the time from 5:00pm on Friday to 9:00am on Monday this past weekend:

(Friday) 5:00p to 6:00p - Feverishly buttoning up things at work, throwing a bunch of stuff in my work bag, racing back to my neighborhood via subway, pick up kids, get 'em home.

6:00p to 7:30p - Dinner, dishes, bedtime stories, Bible, pray, sing.

7:30p to 8:30p - Set up my work schedule for the week ahead.

8:30p to 10:00p - Watch TV with Amy.


10:00p to 10:30p - Read, fall asleep.


10:00p to (Saturday) 4:30a - Sleep


4:30a to 5:30a - Wake up, pray/Bible, email/blog, check sports scores.


5:30a to 7:00a - Grocery shopping.


7:00a to 8:00a - Unload groceries, put stuff away, make a salad, get breakfast ready.


8:00a to 9:00a - Breakfast with kids, wash dishes, clean kitchen.


9:00a to 10:30a - Walk to YMCA with kids, swim in the pool with them, shower them, walk home.


10:30a to 12:00p  - Work on lesson plans for my Penn class.


12:00p to 12:30p - Lunch with kids.


12:30p to 2:30p - Amy's dad takes me and Aaron to Aaron's baseball game.


2:30p to 5:30p - Work on lesson plans for my Penn class.

5:30p to 6:00p - Work on Chinese with Jada.

6:00p to 7:00p - Dinner, dishes, clean kitchen.

7:00p to 7:30p - Bedtime stories, Bible, pray, sing.


7:30p to 8:30p - Indoor chores.


8:30p to 9:30p - Watch TV with Amy.


9:30p to 10:30p - Read, fall asleep.

10:30p to (Sunday) 4:30a - Sleep.

4:30a to 6:00a - Wake up, pray/Bible, email/blog, check sports scores.

6:00a to 7:00a - Outdoor chores.

7:00a to 8:00a - Indoor chores.

8:00a to 9:00a - Breakfast with kids, wash dishes, clean kitchen.

9:00a to 1:00p - Walk to church, Sunday School, church, socialize after.

1:00p to 3:00p - Church leadership meeting.

3:00p to 3:30p - Walk to Boston Market to get dinner, bus home.


3:30p to 5:00p - Work on lesson plans for my Penn class.

5:00p to 6:00p - Everyone goes to playground. 

6:00p to 7:00p - Dinner, dishes, clean kitchen.

7:00p to 7:30p - Bedtime stories, Bible, pray, sing.

7:30p to 8:30p -  Read, fall asleep.

10:30p to (Monday) 4:00a - Sleep.

4:00a to 5:30a - Wake up, pray/Bible, email/blog, check sports scores.

5:30a to 6:30a - Run, end up at Y, lift, run home.

6:30a to 8:00a - Shower, shave, breakfast with kids, wash dishes, clean kitchen.

8:00a to 9:00a - School drop-off, subway to downtown, get into office, get cracking.

By the way, the next  two weekends will likely be busier: Aaron has two games this coming weekend, my class starts the weekend after, and we have Mother's Day plans with my in-laws.  Apologies to any I am slow in responding to; you'll hear from me Memorial Day weekend!
