Odunde, Cooler This Time Around

Last year's pilgrimmage to the annual Afro-Caribbean spectacle that is Odunde was on one of the hottest days of the summer. This year's temps were a much more comfortable 80, but time didn't permit us to linger too long. Still, it was fun to be in the middle of it all, pausing for a spell to take in some interesting music and dance performances, and even scoring VIP passes because I know the event's main organizer. (Not that we were going to be able to enjoy the privileges, which included backstage access to the main performers; but the kids did like being able to wear the special wristbands.) As with many signature events circa 2009, Odunde's struggling financially, but hopefully we can keep it going, as it's just one of those things you want to see succeed, as it is part of the flavorful stew that is Philadelphia in the summer.
