Dessert Before Dinner
Every once in a while, you have to eat dessert before dinner. Especially if you have a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream at the local parlor. Accordingly, I made a beeline with the kids after school yesterday. As they ogled the many chocolate treats, the woman behind the counter prepared our scoop. When she handed it to me, Jada caught a glimpse of it, and her split-second reaction was priceless: "I want some!"
I brought them back outside, sat them up on the high stoop, and took turns shoveling in cookies and cream to their heart's content. This put them in a good mood for the rest of the evening. When we got home, ice cream headache and chocolatey mouths later, they dutifully ate up all their dinner, and when we marched them to bathtime, they happily complied. We need to eat dessert before dinner more often.
