The More I Like You

We had some friends over for dinner earlier this week. Since Jada
goes to bed so early, we knew we'd have to put her to bed while they
were over. Sure enough, around 7, she started giving us the signs
that she was ready for bed. So I whisked her away from everyone.
This caused her no small amount of grief, and she let me know it --
loudly.

When I came back to our guests about ten minutes later, Jada still
whimpering in her crib, I told them to take her howling as a
compliment: "The more she likes you, the more upset she gets when she
has to leave you and go be by herself." But we had run her ragged
that day, and so within five minutes, the whimpering had stopped and
she was sound asleep.
