What's in a Name

It might seem that our daughter’s name is shrouded in secrecy, but it’s not that; it’s just we haven’t decided on one yet. One reason is that depending on how old she is when we meet her, she might have gotten use to a name already. We might want to stick with that name, then, or at least pick something close to that name.

Another reason is that we really want to pick a good name. In my mind, a good name will be something that is easy to say and spell, that sounds good with the last name Huang, that means something significant in terms of its definition, and that means something significant in terms of our lives.

So far, Amy and I have bounced around a few ideas, but none of them meet all of my criteria above. I guess this is the last reason why we haven’t settled on a name yet, for names are important and so we want to get them right. Names mean a great deal in the Bible, they will help shape the destiny and identity of our child, and they will reflect our values and dreams.

So it’s a big decision. Maybe once we decide on a name, we’ll want to keep it under wraps anyway. But for now, there’s nothing under the wraps to keep.
