Over the past couple of decades, I've brought the family to California between Christmas and New Year to see my dad and sister every single year save a couple of exceptions. One was a random year whose reason is lost to me, and it was a good thing too because I ended up getting a huge quick-turnaround assignment at work that I wouldn't have been able to do if I was out of town. The other was 2020 for obvious reasons.
2022 is now another exception. I had brought the kids out in August for college tours, and we'll be back again next August for my dad's 80th. So I figured, hey let's switch it up this year and stay home for a change. No West Coast family and friends and fun, alas. But an opportunity to put up a Christmas tree for once, partake of holiday activities around here, and avoid the hustle and bustle of having to prepare for, survive, and recover from a cross-country trip.
Sorry we'll miss you, Cali loved ones. See you next year!
