The start of 2nd grade for Asher has meant the introduction of real homework, albeit in very small dollops. Our approach has been to be consistent in the time (after dinner) and place (at the big dinner table). He hems and haws, because he’d rather play Legos, watch a video, or do something on his new handheld gaming device – or, even better, all three at the same time. But, he now knows this is a nightly thing.
Some of Asher’s classmates have known how to read for 2+ years. He’s still working on the building blocks. But every week we see some progress. I am hoping that though he is behind, once he catches up, watch out! I mean, what reading does for you is right up Asher's alley, seeing as his creative juices are always on maximum, and what is reading but a turbocharge for your imagination to run wild?
As an avid reader, I certainly long for this “superpower” to become available
to Asher, and am proud of his effort and thankful for his teachers.
