Let's Do What Mommy Wants

"Let's do what Mommy wants."  I say it often enough that my kids tease me about it.  But the statement actually proves that the opposite happens more often than not.  I mean, isn't that what it means to be a mom, is to never get your way but rather to sublimate yourself so that everyone else can get what they want?  Which is how Amy lives much of her life, particularly at home.  So when there is a small occasion for us to let her have her way - picking an activity or a restaurant - I try to counterbalance that by saying we should let her have the choice.  Even then, she often demurs.  Our kids have no idea how special of a mother they lucked into.
