When the kids were much younger, we were members at the
Philadelphia Zoo. Over a three-year
span, we probably went 50 or 60 times.
It was a fun way to get out of the house during the winter and be
amongst the crowds during the summer. But
once the kids got old enough for extra-curricular activities like swimming and
baseball, we stopped going, and even on weekends when we had no plans, the kids
were old enough to entertain themselves and the grown-ups were too tired to
leave the house.
But…we’re back. I’ve
tried not to over-schedule the kids, so we don’t actually have any activities
going on right now. And Jada’s love for
zebras actually post-dates our zoo member days, so now she will be able to
revel in the zebra area.
Previously, we did the membership level which gets you and
two guests in for free each visit. We’re
going up one level this time, which gets you and two guests in for free each
visit and also allows everyone to do every ride once in the place, from the
balloon to the ponies to the train to the swan boats. (I strongly urged Jada to go halfsies with me
on the added cost.)
So if you’re a zoo regular, you’ll be seeing us there a lot
over at least the next 365 days. Can’t
wait to see things again, and to see things through my kids’ eyes now that
they’re a little older than last time.
