Three Year Old Boy, One Day Old Cake
Amy made a cake for Aaron on his birthday, but when the kids took one look at it, they decided they wanted to forgo dinner and head straight for dessert. No dice, said their parents. Lines got drawn, negotiations commenced, and the kids even followed through on their intention to eat no dinner at all. But we didn't budge. Sadly, the cake went uneaten on Aaron's birthday.
Fast forward a day, and we repeated the process. Realizing we were serious about the "no dinner, no dessert" rule, they decided this time to eat their dinner. The blowing out of candles and the dispensing of large slices of birthday cake ensued. Happy birthday, Aaron: a day late, but the cake was still good.
