Amy sadly told me that insurance rejected coverage for Jada's speech therapy. It's clear to us that while Jada is pretty swift when it comes to vocabulary and memorization, her conversational skills are painfully lacking, which causes her to struggle sometimes in social settings. But these deficits didn't come through in her evaluation, which focused on areas she's strong in and didn't spend enough time probing her difficulties in free form dialogue.
We're going to appeal, but it's likely this resource will not be as readily available to us. We have other avenues that we're pursuing, but this was one we were hoping to get for Jada, and as of now, it doesn't appear to be in the cards. So hopefully the other resources we're lining up for her will pan out.

Lee, from everyone I have talked with, I have been told that you will have to fight for the services that Jada needs. I am glad Amy is appealing. It probably isn't going to be the first time you will have to do this, but the insurance company, with the right information, may just approve services. I see this in the hospital all the time. The insurance companies find it easier to say no and hope you won't challenge. Love, Mom K.
