The three other families in our travel group to China last year flew through Beijing, and spent a couple of days sightseeing there before the adoption proceedings. We decided for this first adoption that we'd prefer to get home ASAP, a decision over which we have absolutely no regrets.
But it is my hope that this next time around and the time after, we swing through Beijing. The city is hosting the 2008 Olympics, after all, and it is likely our second adoption would have us there before the event and our third after the event. So while the purpose of these trips will be to meet our new additions, of course, a nice side project will be to see what Beijing looks like before and after this huge world event. (Of course, if Philadelphia wins the 2016 bid, which it is actively seeking, I'll have a very firsthand view of the before and after, as well as the during!)
